Our top #mybarnardosfind picks from last week

Another week, another great set of your fantastic purchases from our stores up and down the country.

We begin with this unique blazer found by Hannah Williams (@heggyhogg91) in our Didsbury store in Manchester. Hannah chose to pair this fab blazer with a plain red t-shirt which we think works a treat at keeping the focus on the panda print.

Window inspiration and installation – by Gemma Burgess

Since I started working at Barnardo’s a year ago, our shop windows have been one of the biggest changeGemma Burgesss I have implemented, changing them every month (three times a week sometimes). I strive to showcase all of the great donations that we receive daily at Barnardo’s Vintage. Our windows highlight our speciality within the business and make us a destination store in the heart of the bustling village of Cheadle. Here is a step by step guide and an insight into how I prepare and install Barnardo’s Vintage Windows:

Inspiration: This usually starts with a theme if it’s seasonal – for example, what’s happening on the catwalks, latest trends, and new discoveries I find through Pinterest and Instagram. I base it around collections I have in store, for example I’ve just had some great pieces for autumn/winter so have kept them in the stock room to use in the window. I hope to recreate the feel and mood of a grand old library; take a look at my mood board for colour palette and prop ideas!

Le geek, c’est chic

For many of us the idea of dressing like a geek will immediately transform you back to those awful school days you tried so hard to forget! Your Mum forced you to wear the ugliest shoes known to mankind, you just couldn’t control that frizz issue (thank goodness for GHDs!) and some of us were forced to wear the most unfashionable big thick glasses!

Geek Chic, Geek Glam, Nerd chic – whatever you want to call this growing fashion fad –has seen a revival this year.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s portrayal of Margot Tenenbaum in the 2001 remake of The Royal Tenenbaums provided inspiration for many of the collections shown during this year’s biggest fashion shows, including Gucci, Erdem, Lacoste and Jonathan Saunders.

Our top #mybarnardosfind picks from last week

We’ve had a good scroll through all of the fantastic purchases you’ve made in our stores over the last few weeks and picked some of our favourites.

We start with this outfit created by Emily Mahon (@molovescheap). Emily purchased 99p jeans originally from Forever 21 and paired them with a Republic jumper she found for just £1. To complete this laid back look she added a pair of classic Converse trainers – another fantastic purchase from Emily’s local Barnardo’s store!

Hi, I’m Lisa and I blog at wisdomandpennies.com. The heart behind my blog is to help people to live well on a little, to be goodstewards over their money and to be wise in how they spend it.Lisa Skinner

Re-imagining the pre-loved

It really is true that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. When I look around a charity shop, I imagine great possibilities for the pre-loved items before me. I see it as my mission to restore, revamp or repurpose whatever I can. In short, I reimagine the pre-loved. Read More »
