It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – My favourite festive outfits – by Martina Davis

With Christmas just around the corner, what better excuse do we need to update the old wardrobe with sparkles, sequin, glitz and glam? It’s the perfect opportunity to dress OTT, shine bright and stand out. With high street stores selling out of their Christmas must-haves fast, the best way to avoid the horror of being dressed the same as someone else is to get rummaging in your local charity shop for that perfect unique party show-stopper.

As most of you know by now, I love a bit of pink to make the boys wink! This stunning Topshop number was one of my best buys at only £10. The beading detail gives it instant character, meaning you don’t need to worry about adding lots of accessories to it, as the dress speaks for itself. The colour is fun and flirty and the shape of the dress will hide a multitude of sins from all the festive food we will no doubt be indulging in!

Don’t fancy a dress? There are plenty of sequin tops about. I’m absolutely besotted with these three – of course, the pink one (did I mention this was my favourite colour?!) with its beautiful shape and detailing, the gold one for its flattering fit and comfort, and the beaded one for the stunning and timeless forties glamour that oozes from it. You can wear them with anything – skirts, trousers, jeans, shorts, even harem pants. Just add some heeled shoes or boots to complete the look.

This beautiful maxi skirt was a fab find at £6. Its full length adds elegance, and is best worn with a crop or fitted top so it doesn’t swamp your figure.

To dress up something plain, add a kimono or shawl to bring the outfit to life. This cute butterfly kimono looks great over a little black dress, and the detailing at the back adds interest to an otherwise plain look. This River Island scarf still had the tags on when I bought it, and for £4 I was absolutely delighted – definitely my must have accessory for the season! Release your inner disco ball and catch the light from every angle.

Christmas jumpers don’t have to mean novelty – keep cosy and on trend with a more fashion friendly option. Both these jumpers are in Christmas colours; add a statement necklace and a leather skirt and you are night out ready!

I hope this helps you find the perfect party piece for those all-important festive celebrations! Have a wonderful Christmas and I will be back in the New Year showing you how to beat the January blues! M
