My £10 Barnardo’s Haul

Hi peeps! I’m Hannah and I’m currently based in Manchester. When I’m not working in a lab, I regularly showcase my charity shop bargains and adventures over on my Instagram account and my blog – The Charity Panda.

I have been very kindly invited by Barnardo’s to visit their discount store in Wythenshawe and see what bargains I could find!

Now that we are post-Easter – a time when people get an annual declutter in full swing – I decided to search for some not-so-new additions to my spring wardrobe.

Cold Shoulder Blouse – £1.99

The off-the-shoulder craze has made a comeback this season – much to my excitement! With high street stores now bustling with shoulder baring shirts and blouses, this gorgeous vintage-gold coloured number is a perfect and unique version of this trend, it even has ruffled/flute sleeves for that extra feminine look.

Why I’m Still Charity Shopping In My 40s

Charity shop lover Kathryn Houldcroft has been shopping since her teenage years and explains why she’s still charity shopping in her 40’s…

As someone in their mid-40’s you would have thought that charity shopping is something I would have grown out of by now. But I guess I have been second-hand shopping for so many decades that my brain is now hardwired to head straight for the thrift stores.  I also love the thrill of a bargain, the individuality of charity shop purchases and the feeling I get from giving to a good cause, such as Barnardo’s. And there’s other reasons as well:

1) It’s something I haven’t grown out of.

I first started second-hand shopping in my early teens when charity stores circa 1985 were very different to the ones you see now. Ironically, although these places were frowned upon, they were stocked with amazing pieces from the ’50s and ’60s that would now be classed as vintage.

2) It’s my own personal style and no one will have the same outfit as me.

I have to confess this was the reason I began charity shopping many years ago. As a student I wanted to look individual. I wanted to wear the shirt, jacket or shorts that no-one else had. I guess this is a habit that has stuck with me.Read More »

Spring Is Here!

Spring is here!! Yes the sun has actually come out of hiding and that means one thing in your fashion calendar – a style overhaul!

The Barnardo’s retail team has been on the hunt for this seasons perfect spring dresses, without the need to spend a fortune on the high-street.

We know at this time of year, abandoning your roll neck sweater and putting your denier 1000 tights to the back of the draw is a daunting prospect because yes, it’s still a little chilly outside, especially in the evenings. However, we have found the perfect transitional styles that can take you from winter blues to sunny spring in minutes.

Bohemian vibes

With the 70’s trend set to continue into S.S 16, there is no better time to add some bohemian vibes to your wardrobe.

A white lace dress, such as this Dahlia number, ticks all the style boxes!

Accessorise with tanned ankle boots and a flower hair garland for a winning combination.

Thrifty Celebs

Celebrities may have loads of money, but that doesn’t stop them from browsing for unique pieces and bagging a bargain in thrift shops! We take a look at some celebrities who regularly thrift…

We love Dame Helen Mirren – she’s an international star with A-list friends yet still loves a thrifty bargain…

“The whole thing of clothes is insane. You can spend a dollar on a jacket in a thrift store. And you can spend a thousand dollars on a jacket in a shop. And if you saw those two jackets walking down the street, you probably wouldn’t know which was which.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! Also, think of all the high-street and designer labels you find in Charity shops. No-one would be any wiser about whether you bought it in store or from Barnardo’s, but of course, you can’t help but share the fact that you bought it for such an amazing price!

And then, of course, there’s this statement:

Barnardo’s Outfit Challenge

Hi! I’m Miss Eleanor May, and I was recently set the Outfit Challenge by Barnardo’s Retail team to find an outfit in one of their shops whilst spending as little as possible!

One of my favourite Barnardo’s shops is located in Plymouth, Devon, and I try to visit whenever I’m in the city. This particular shop is a 99p shop and there is always an incredible array of clothes, accessories, toys and homewares for sale.

With my challenge in mind, I got the chance to visit and was delighted to find a beautiful dragonfly dress which was originally £26 from Next and still had the tags attached – and you guessed it, it was only 99p! I absolutely fell in love with this dress as it fits beautifully and is perfect for wearing all year round, layering up in the colder months.

Ingred (@thorasfabulousfinds) found this bold blue pair in our Lichfield Street branch in Wolverhampton. You would never believe that she purchased them for only £1.99.
