Thrifty Celebs

Celebrities may have loads of money, but that doesn’t stop them from browsing for unique pieces and bagging a bargain in thrift shops! We take a look at some celebrities who regularly thrift…

We love Dame Helen Mirren – she’s an international star with A-list friends yet still loves a thrifty bargain…

“The whole thing of clothes is insane. You can spend a dollar on a jacket in a thrift store. And you can spend a thousand dollars on a jacket in a shop. And if you saw those two jackets walking down the street, you probably wouldn’t know which was which.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! Also, think of all the high-street and designer labels you find in Charity shops. No-one would be any wiser about whether you bought it in store or from Barnardo’s, but of course, you can’t help but share the fact that you bought it for such an amazing price!

And then, of course, there’s this statement:

Definitely our type of woman! Helen, we want to go thrift shopping and drink champagne with you!

Ever wonder why Julia Roberts is grinning so much? Well, the Eat, Pray, Love star saves a fortune by buying what she likes to call “gently used” clothing for her and her family! What a lady!

New Girl star Zooey Deschanel is a thrift shop fan because “Limitations make you more creative.”

How many times have you customised something you’ve bought from Barnardo’s? Or paired a top with a midi skirt that you wouldn’t have necessarily thought would work together yet it works perfectly?

Charity shops make you think more about what you’re buying and create original combinations that no-one else will have.

One Republic frontman, Ryan Tedder, has been shopping at thrift stores since his teens, declaring “I’ve thrift shopped since I was 13, and half of my wardrobe to this day are still the same shirts I had when I was 17, 18.” Good work Ryan!

Rock star Alice Cooper has his OWN thrift shop in Arizona called Alice’s Attic! Yep, you can even purchase some of Alice’s pre-loved garments – just have a browse in ‘Cooper’s Corner’, which also includes clothing from his family.

Ok, ok, Regina George isn’t a celebrity – but she may as well be considering how well we all know her…right?

Don’t you love when someone asks where you bought your latest purchase from and your answer is Barnardo’s with the ‘Yes, I didn’t break my bank balance AND my money went to a good cause’ look!

(Not to mention the fact that they won’t be able to steal your look!)

Only got £20 in your pocket? Well then it’s time to go thrift shopping. Find your nearest Barnardo’s store here.
