Why I love Charity Shopping
Hi, I’m Besma. I write over at Curiously Conscious, a blog for wellness and sustainable living. I was invited to write a post for The Thrift by the wonderful people at Barnardo’s.
I’ve been a fan of charity shopping for quite a while now, being the most accessible and afforadble way to purchase clothes ethically. Here I explain why thrift shopping in charity shops is the best!
1. Variety
Charity shops offer a very unique selection of clothing; no two shops are the same, and styles range from genuine vintage pieces to fresh off the high street. I’ve found items from H&M, Zara, and Other Stories, like this gorgeous jumper pictured below. I’ve also found pieces from McQueen and Aquascutum, all found in Barnardo’s Marylebone store!
2. Quality
The thing I love about shopping in Barnardo’s is the quality of the items and how neatly labelled and easy they are to look through. Look out for the purple and green labels – they’ll tell you the condition an item is in, so you know if it’s brand new or preloved without needing closer inspection.
3. Price
The beauty of charity shopping is that every penny goes back to the charity – so technically it’s guilt-free shopping; well that’s what I tell myself!
4. Recycle
I believe in reducing waste as much as I can – that means shopping sensibly, but also recycling or reusing anything I no longer need. The same goes for clothes, for every wardrobe clear out I have, I bring my preloved clothes to my local charity shop.

Good tips! I agree with them all; that’s why I love charity shopping! Also I didn’t know about the different coloured labels stating what condition the item is.
Glad you enjoyed 🙂
