Autumn Tones by Harriet

Hello, Autumn!

As we start to wave goodbye to the summer months and welcome autumn, we can look forward to warm coats and hot chocolate, snuggly scarves and nights in, carving pumpkins and thinking about the festive season.

If you read my blog or follow me on Instagram, you will know that I am somewhat of a charity shop fiend. I can’t help it. It’s one of my favourite things to do and certainly a weekly ritual of mine.

So as the seasons begin to change and the summer skirts and dresses are carefully put away for another year, it’s time to start thinking about those rich, autumnal tones. Looking to the catwalks for inspiration and scouring Pinterest for enviable street styles to master.

It’s no secret that I am a lover of finding jackets and coats when I go thrifting – they are one of my favourite items to look for. I have quite the collection now but when I stumbled across this beautifully detailed brocade jacket in my local Barnardo’s store, I knew I could pair it with so many outfits. It could be dressed up for date night or paired simply with jeans and crisp white tee. Lightweight and comfortable, it’s a nod to the ongoing metallics trend and perfect for when the days and nights inevitably grow colder.

As soon as September approaches, the high street begins its decent into autumn, introducing rich wines and deep plum tones to its rails. I love the association these colour palettes have with autumn and wrapping up warm, so imagine my surprise when I spotted this pretty vintage blouse. With bronze metal buttons and a flattering v-neckline, the colours are wonderfully reminiscent of the changing seasons. I’ve paired it simply with black jeans and a patent bag here but as the temperature begins to drop, it would look lovely teamed with a slouchy cream cardigan and ankle boots too.

Vintage and thrift shopping has steadily grown in popularity in recent years with more and more of us skipping on down to our local charity shops. My local Barnardo’s stocks a great range of pieces and what’s more, it’s colour-coded too – ideal if you’re looking for the perfect cream blouse!
