Fashion Revolution Week – Soph’s Love Story

Fashion Revolution Week Day 4 is here!

Next up in our Fashion Love Stories series is the gorgeous Soph, effortlessly stylish and an absolute charity shop queen. With so many beautiful pre-loved pieces to chose from, check out just one of her clothes love stories below.

“The jacket and skirt are items that I had looked around for, for so long, as they originally sold out on ASOS and Nasty Gal. The skirt was £90 on ASOS but I managed to get my hands on it for £15 on a for sale site – and it was brand new with tags. The Nasty Gal star jacket, I picked up for £5! The outfit gives me major Debbie Harry vibes, and as she’s one of my forever style icons, I’ll always take inspiration from her.

When looking around at the charity shops, my main tips are to look around in all sections, even the men’s! I’ve bought small jackets before from the men’s section that are amazing and would’ve cost a fortune in shops. I’d also say, don’t just limit yourself to your own size, look around in all size sections as every brand fits differently, and especially for vintage pieces – the sizing has changed so much on women’s clothing in particular over the decades, labels won’t always be correct.”

These are the kind of love stories we love to hear and see, so why not get involved and tell you own? Photograph it, film it, write about it! Get involved this Fashion Revolution week and share your love story.

Crochet Love.

Hello everyone! My name is Stevie and today I wanted to share a little bit about how I got into crocheting my own clothing and how charity shopping ties in with that! I’m a huge fan of shopping pre-loved and have been buying from charity shops for years but recently, I’ve got more and more into up-cycling, DIY projects and making my own clothing – crochet being my main craft of choice!

Recycle Week Up-Cycles

Recycle Week is in full swing and we wanted to get involved. We set some fabulous thrifty bloggers an up-cycling challenge with some pre-loved pieces found in-store. Be sure to follow the blog and our Instagram this week so see what they created!

Today we have the lovely Hannah guest blogging. Keep scrolling and see her creation.

I saw this shirt in Barnardo’s and loved, loved, loved the colours of the check. Just the right amount of autumnal. Rather than just keeping it as a normal shirt I decided to add a ruffle to jazz it up a little.

My first ever time shopping at Barnardo’s.

Before we get stuck in I will quickly introduce myself, I’m Eva (evagoesthrifting) and I have been kindly invited to guest blog post for The-Thrift. I have been shopping in charity shops for years but I officially started boycotting fast fashion in February 2019. However, I had never shopped at Barnardo’s before. This wasn’t out of choice but due to the fact there wasn’t one in Cheltenham where I have been living for the last 3 years and the one in York is on the other side of town (I sound lazy, I know).

Since I was asked to write a blog post, I have been racking my brain thinking about what to write about. I thought  it would be fun to head over to the Barnardo’s in York and see what it was all about. I combined this visit with dropping off a hefty donation of clothes and other household bits. The ladies running the shop that day were very grateful and so welcoming (please remember to donate your pre-loved things if they’re in good condition). We soon began chatting and I let them know what I was guest blogging and they let me roam the shop and take photos of basically everything.

Once I had a good look around I went to the changing room armed with lots of options . Not everything in my selection suited me but the shop has two changing rooms, and I felt like I had plenty of freedom to try clothes on and didn’t feel pressured to buy without trying. I hope that people who don’t yet shop in charity shops realise that most charity shops will have a changing room. I wonder whether people might feel put off from buying if they think they can’t try the clothes on. I hope this piece of information might encourage someone to start shopping pre-loved.

Here are the pieces I loved and took home with me.

Mustard Chic

I picked up this striped shirt in the Lytham St Anne’s Barnardo’s, during a girly weekend in Blackpool back in September. The mustard yellow caught my eye immediately as it’s one of my favourite colours at this time of year – ideal for transitioning into our autumn/winter wardrobe. A stripe is a timeless print, which in my opinion, always adds a spot of chicness. Plus, I love a dipped hem/front-tuck combo; loose and comfy but still has shape.

My Up-cycling Challenge

I was asked by Barnardo’s to join in with Recycle Week by up-cycling an item of clothing surprisingly sent to me, I automatically thought, WHAT A FUN CHALLENGE!

As an avid repairs and up-cycling seamstress with my brand, Soul and Flare, I was excited to receive my parcel. I opened up the box and to my delight there was an indigo wash, women’s denim shirt by Uniqlo. HURRAH!
