Caring For Your Clothes

Hi everyone!

My name is Camilla, and I have been kindly invited to guest blog on The-Thrift to talk about a subject I am very passionate about: maintaining and prolonging the life of clothes. Essentially, making them last as long as possible!

This is such an important topic and I feel that most of the time people might give up on a perfectly fine garment. They may be unaware that they can mend them, think repairs are too difficult or simply don’t have the time.

Today I want to show you three simple steps you can take in order to extend the life of your clothes. I hope you will find this useful!

Making your knitwear look brand new

One of the main issues I find when charity shopping is bobbling fabric.  Once an item bobbles, people don’t know how to restore their knit to its former glory.  You might want to consider investing in a fabric shave. Acquiring one of these was the best decision I ever made clothes-wise: it changed my life!  A little dramatic perhaps, but it made me aware of how people wear clothes and expect them to look new without any maintenance.

Spring Has Sprung! De-clutter Anyone?

In the mood for a spring clean? Why not have some fun and start with your wardrobe?

Most of us are looking to switch our autumn/winter wardrobe into a spring/summer one and the opportunity for a great clear-out is definitely in the air.

loveyc_logoBut how do you know which clothes to keep and which ones to discard? Well, the definition of de-clutter in the Oxford dictionary is ‘remove unnecessary items from an untidy or overcrowded place.

De-cluttering is a great place to kick-start the spring clean and Love Your Clothes has joined forces with Barnardo’s to show you a quick and easy way to a lighter and more organised wardrobe. By all working together, we hope to reduce the 350,000 tonnes of clothes that end up in UK landfills every year.

Join In Our Get The Trend Workshops By Love Your Clothes

Charity Fashion Love has been and gone, and we’re sad to wave goodbye to another brilliant event celebrating the versatility, beauty and fun of pre-loved shopping.

Once again we were blown away by the speed and flair with which Stylist and CFL Founder, Emma recreated London Fashion Week looks, solely using items found in one Barnardo’s store. The buzz of event day and general excitement of everyone taking part, was infectious, and we hope you’ve all been inspired to make pre-loved your first love when it comes to to shopping for clothes!

The action isn’t over though, as we have been holding some free drop-in workshops with Barnardo’s, in three of their London stores. The workshops focus on different trends we’ve seen during London Fashion Week and are bound to help keep you up to date!
