Barnardo’s is a charity shop that is very dear to my heart. It was the inspiration to start a pre-loved account on Instagram, dedicated to my love of charity shopping for pretty much everything in life! In fact, at the time of writing this, I have my newly adopted cat ‘Rainbow’ at my side, grooming herself, which is a comforting sign that she is getting less nervous in her new home. I’ve spent most of my adult life rummaging through charity shop rails, often finding garments I loved that didn’t fit or that I wished I could alter. It’s only very recently that I’ve started taking sewing more seriously. I’ve always hand sewn but I’ve never wanted to invest in a sewing machine as I’ve heard so many horror stories about what a nightmare they can be. My Mum lent me her old sewing machine to practice on and I’ve finally invested in a machine of my own!

I saw this shirt in Barnardo’s and loved, loved, loved the colours of the check. Just the right amount of autumnal. Rather than just keeping it as a normal shirt I decided to add a ruffle to jazz it up a little.
