Volunteering At Barnardo’s Vintage

A huge hello to everyone reading! My name is Alice, I’m 28, I love the Simpsons and adore all things vintage! In January 2015 I was having a difficult time with my mental health and wasn’t working. Enter: Barnardo’s Vintage! A Barnardo’s charity shop like no other.

At that time, I was living with my parents in their new house, down the road from Cheadle Village. A stroll out one day lead to my first visit to Barnardo’s Vintage; I decided almost instantly that volunteering there was something I would absolutely love to do. Why was that?  It seemed to be a place that had the ultimate escapism affect (I wasn’t wrong). The kitsch jewellery, children’s toys, balls of yarn – there was so much variety to take in. A fascinating place, laid out to perfection.Read More »

Barnardo’s – A Wardrobe For The 90s

‘I found it in a charity shop’ is a phrase I must say a hundred times a week. My wardrobe is almost entirely pre-loved – once you’ve thrifted a pair of Versace sandals for £4.99, it’s hard to go back to the high street.

I’m a Kid of The 90s. I spent my childhood wearing glittery flares, butterfly hair-clips, Claire’s Accessories chokers and Tammy Girl combat trousers. Today fast fashion is awash with 90s nostalgia – but if it’s authentic 90s brands you’re after then look no further than the lime green doors of Barnardo’s. Like most charity shops, Barnardo’s is a time capsule for 90s clothing. Shelves stacked high with diamanté mini handbags, baby pink tube tops and spice girl worthy platforms. It is the only place on my shopping list if I want genuine 90s pieces. This week I’ve scouted out all the best treasure that Barnardo’s has to offer to take me back to the days of cassette tapes and Girl power.Read More »

Busting Open Your Comfort Zone

Hi lovely charity shop fans! I’m Carrie, a Nottingham based vintage fiend and charity shop addict who boasts an entirely thrifted wardrobe (and a prodigious collection of thrifted books too). I blog at duckduckgoosevintagestyling.blogpsot.com.

One of the things I love most about charity shopping is the fact that it really encourages an open mind approach to fashion. Whilst some might be daunted by such a range of styles, eras, colours, shapes and fabrics, I find it hugely exciting. High street shops seem so finite by comparison! Charity shopping, on the other hand, provides the ideal blank canvas to reconfigure your ideas of what constitutes ‘your personal style’, be that by trying out a colour you’d normally shy away from, a style that seems a bit eccentric but might just be worth a try, or teaming two ostensibly mismatched pieces together. Hey, why not just throw the whole rulebook out of the window – the world (well more specifically the charity shops, but let’s not quibble) is your oyster. To prove it, here’s a handy guide to shopping in sections which you might otherwise overlook.

Charity Shop Cute

Holly 1

Hello, I’m Holly from @eternalthrifter over on Instagram. Since I can remember I have always shopped in charity shops. As a child, my mum would take me around them and I absolutely loved it! Now it’s my turn to do the same with my daughter. She’s two and her wardrobe is 90% thrifted. I receive compliments all the time on how cute her little outfits are. She was actually the inspiration behind the hashtag which I started on Instagram #charityshopcutie.Read More »

Today we have the lovely Hannah guest blogging. Keep scrolling and see her creation.

I saw this shirt in Barnardo’s and loved, loved, loved the colours of the check. Just the right amount of autumnal. Rather than just keeping it as a normal shirt I decided to add a ruffle to jazz it up a little.
