Top Barnardo’s Finds of the Week

The weekend is nearly upon us, so why not treat yourself to something at your local Barnardo’s? It’s shopping that is guaranteed to make you look and feel fabulous! Keep scrolling to see what pre-loved finds we love this week.

The cold weather is still upon us, and we are head over heels in love with knits. The key here is to embrace the comfy cosy homespun feel of the knits while letting it do all the talking. It’s perfect for those days you want to inject a little bit of colour and pizzazz into your outfit. Sam embraces this trend perfectly by pairing it with some distressed jeans and a leather jacket (which we adore) for an edgier feel.

Sneaker Thrifting is the New Frontier

Sneakers, trainers, kicks, runners or whatever you call them are probably not the first thing that come to your mind when you’re going on a thrifting adventure. But very much like thrifting for clothes, venturing into the world of thrifting for sneakers can be really interesting. Finding lost silhouettes of years gone by and maybe even finding a few pairs that are worth a few quid too.

Before you all rush out the door because of the new sneaker frontier I will tell you about later, I just want to give you a few tips of what to look out for the next time you go thrifting.

Natural Tie-Dye Tees

Tie-dye? Yes please. It’s a fun and easy way to jazz up a plain t-shirt that’s sitting in your wardrobe. The crazy talented Hannah Elliman has been experimenting with natural dyes and accidentally created this tie-dye beaut. She achieved this gorgeous pink colour by boiling avocado stones and their skins and we are obsessed. Keep […]

One T-Shirt, Four ways

I’m really excited to be back guest blogging again for The Thrift! It was great to hear and see all the positive feedback about my last post. I thought it would be interesting to do another piece where I style an item four different ways.

Today I am styling a stripe t-shirt from the brand Ninety Percent that I picked up from Barnardo’s for just £4. I have been looking for a striped t-shirt for a while but have never been able to find one that encapsulates my style. I often read that a stripe top should be a staple in everyone’s wardrobe but sometimes I find it hard to style them in new and creative ways. I fell in love with this top while I was rummaging through the rails of my local Barnardo’s shop and thought I would challenge myself to find four unique ways to style it.

For my first outfit I wanted to create something that incorporated mixed prints, a trend I’m loving right now. I paired the t-shirt with a wrap around silky skirt by the Diesel Black and Gold brand that I also picked up from Barnardo’s. I feel like the mix of the subtle red print in the skirt paired with the red stripe in the top. It makes a perfect day to night look.

Mustard Chic

I picked up this striped shirt in the Lytham St Anne’s Barnardo’s, during a girly weekend in Blackpool back in September. The mustard yellow caught my eye immediately as it’s one of my favourite colours at this time of year – ideal for transitioning into our autumn/winter wardrobe. A stripe is a timeless print, which in my opinion, always adds a spot of chicness. Plus, I love a dipped hem/front-tuck combo; loose and comfy but still has shape.

My Barnardo’s Lookbook

So, I’ll start off by saying a huge hello and thank you to everyone that’s taking the time to read this blog post I’ve put together for Barnardo’s. I’ve created a look book featuring some of my favourite Barnardo’s finds and how I style them to create some of my favourite looks.

I started charity shopping when I was just 13. I picked up a black pinstripe blazer for just £1.99 and it quickly because a wardrobe staple of mine. Since October 2017 I started to re-embrace the slow fashion movement. I have been browsing weekly to collect some fabulous finds, initially wearing a mix of high street and vintage, but now wearing full-on charity shop looks. Lucky for me, we have not one, but two Barnardo’s stores in Worksop. The 99p store is always my first point of call!

One Of A Kind S/S 2018

For our Spring/Summer 2018 lookbook we are highlighting the power of the Individual. We are inspired by the people who don’t dress to t the mould, but use fashion as an expression of their own uniqueness.

The joy of shopping pre-loved is that the clothes are as one of a kind as you are. It doesn’t matter what your background is or where you’re from, fashion is all about creating who you want to be by putting together the perfect outfit for your mood. Barnardo’s has everything you need to do this. Created in collaboration with students from the London College of Fashion, this lookbook shows a collection of our favourite pre-loved items, and demonstrates how they can be put together quickly and easily to show your true self. Even if your personal style changes daily, Barnardo’s can keep up.

Perfect Pastels

Gelato hues. For spring. Ground-breaking! This season’s twist comes in a pastel pile-up of parma violet, lemon sorbet, and layers of pistachio. This might look like tough work, but it’s surprisingly easy to create: scan your wardrobe, pick every pastel item in sight, and stack those ice cream shades one on top of another like a triple scoop of your favourite flavours.
