My Volunteering Experience By Mel

Wednesday’s, the one day of the week that I can guarantee will be a success. Why? It’s the day I volunteer at Barnardo’s. My friend introduced me to the idea of volunteering about seven months ago and I can honestly say I’m having the best experience!

My manager Leanne and I hit it off immediately. So much so when I heard she was moving stores, I followed her. I was given the exciting role of creating fun window displays to draw the public in. I was given free rein to be creative and this has given me a huge amount of my confidence back. Plus, having a fashion degree under my belt means I can finally put my skills to good use, thank god!

Volunteering at Cheadle

Hey guys! I hope you have all had a brilliant start to the New Year? Speaking of New Years, did you guys make any resolutions for 2017? Ever thought about volunteering? Here I give you an insight into why volunteering for Barnardo’s is amazing and how I got involved myself!

Last year, after I started blogging, one of the lovely ladies from Barnardo’s Retail contacted me, asking if I would be interested in writing for their blog ‘The-Thrift’.

I jumped at the opportunity and set off to my local Barnardo’s. I hadn’t previously shopped at charity shops, but when I did I was amazed, most of the clothes are brand new or in immaculate condition, the staff are friendly, and the stores look amazing – clothes colour blocked and in size order which makes it easy to view.

I had certaintly caught the charity shopping bug, and this in-turn encouraged me to sign up to volunteer at my local Barnardo’s.

Having recently revamped my wardrobe with a number of charity shop bargains, I’ve noticed how surprised people tend to be when they learn that a brand new dress was just a fiver from a local Barnardo’s.

Many people are still wrongly under the impression that charity shops are full of scruffy clothes and that they stock the same old stock year in, year out, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
