Recycling Week – Day 3

We are in LOVE with this upcycled project from the insanely talented, professional luxecycler and interiors enthusiast Abi Ann Davis! Watch as she takes these candle holders to a whole new level.

‘I am OBSESSED with statement home accessorises – especially abstract candles at the moment! So as soon as I saw the candle sticks, I knew that I wanted to upcycle them! The details on them are beautiful and I knew I couldn’t leave them!

‘Upcycling is so important to me, it’s my therapy! With home trends constantly changing, ‘Fast homeware’ is a huge problem for the environment.

‘I want to show people how you can shop second hand and find beautiful one off pieces that have stood the test of time and doesn’t have an outrageous price tag. People need to see how you don’t need to just throw things away as they ‘don’t go’ with your new interior scheme – you can just upcycle them for a fraction of the price… plus the endorphin rush is NEXT LEVEL! The sense of achievement after you have finished a piece is part of the reason why I do this – knowing that I’ve saved something from landfill and that it also looks FABULOUS, and it can inspire others to do the same.

‘Firstly – I cleaned the candle sticks thoroughly and checked to see if any repairs needed to be done. I then buffed the surface with a light sanding block, as I wanted to make sure that my spray primer would adhere properly. After the spray primer had dried – I then sprayed the sticks with my light turquoise spray paint and left them to cure. After round 30 minutes, they were dry and ready to for the shelf!’

Feeling inspired? Why not get creative and share your up-cycles. We would love to see.
