My charity shop obsession started over a decade ago, rooting through the local shops for stuffed animals with my Mum. This soon progressed into charity shops being my first stop when I was on the hunt for a new outfit. We would travel to different areas just to explore their charity shops. It was a hobby for me but also a great escape from everyday stresses and something I realised I was good at. I enjoyed putting together pre-loved pieces and loved when people complimented my thrifted outfit.

The last couple of years I’ve been looking for a creative outlet to demonstrate this passion and I recently started an Instagram account where I curate content consisting of mostly pre-loved outfits. Like many people my age juggling several jobs, you can feel a loss of individuality and while I love working to help other people’s creativity, I wanted the chance to showcase my own.Read More »

My Day In Cheadle

Each time my li’l mellow yellow VW travels from York back to my hometown of Stockport, there is always one essential location on my must-visit list, and that is Cheadle. Why Cheadle? One word – ‘Barnardo’s’, of course!

Yes, Cheadle High Street is blessed with not one, but two Barnardo’s shops, each brimming with bargainous goodies. Of course, my absolute favourite, being a 60s and 70s obsessive, is ‘Barnardo’s Vintage’ – winner of ‘Specialist Shop of the Year’ last Summer at the Charity Retail Association Awards. Manager Gemma has now been given the well-deserved accolade of being a judge at the 2018 awards (get nominating now! Nominations need to be in by 2nd April), and her lovely shop has been recently featured in Refinery29’s list of the best charity shops in the UK.

My Personalised Denim By April

April here! I’m back with another monthly blog for The-Thrift! This time, it’s all about getting creative and personalising your pre-loved finds. So, let’s get right to it!

Denim finds are my favourite to get creative with. It’s so easy to jazz up old denim with a quick DIY fix, and from the comfort of your own home.

I got these Mom jeans in my local Barnardo’s in Brixton a couple of months ago – a bargain at just £7.99! They fit perfectly but I wanted to make them unique. I knew they would look great distressed and decided to give it a go myself. Here’s how I did it. Read More »

How Volunteering At Barnardo’s Made Me A Thrifty Fashionista

Hey guys, my name’s Priyanka, I run the thrifty fashion and DIY blog, Small, Brown and Stylish and today I’m here to share how volunteering at Barnardo’s made me a thrifty fashionista.

Whilst being stylish on a shoestring budget may seem difficult, I’ve always been a big believer that you don’t have to break the bank to be fashionable. Whether you want to rock Cara Delevingne’s grungy style, channel Blake Lively’s boho vibes or simply create your own signature look, charity shops are the way to go! The holy grail of all things thrifty, charity shops have long been my ultimate haven, because not only are they full of stylish steals, but they’re also thrillingly unpredictable.

Spring Has Sprung! De-clutter Anyone?

In the mood for a spring clean? Why not have some fun and start with your wardrobe?

Most of us are looking to switch our autumn/winter wardrobe into a spring/summer one and the opportunity for a great clear-out is definitely in the air.

loveyc_logoBut how do you know which clothes to keep and which ones to discard? Well, the definition of de-clutter in the Oxford dictionary is ‘remove unnecessary items from an untidy or overcrowded place.

De-cluttering is a great place to kick-start the spring clean and Love Your Clothes has joined forces with Barnardo’s to show you a quick and easy way to a lighter and more organised wardrobe. By all working together, we hope to reduce the 350,000 tonnes of clothes that end up in UK landfills every year.

April’s Charity Shopping Tips.

It’ April here and I’m, back with another monthly guest blog! In this entry I’ll be sharing my ideas on how to end the stigma around charity shop shopping and sharing some more smashing Barnardo’s finds.

When you hear the words charity shop, what immediately pops into your mind? For me it’s a treasure trove of amazing fashion finds! I’ve had people compliment me on my outfits, followed by the classic question “where is that from?” – I have always proudly answered: “Barnardo’s”. Cue the shocked expression! I was once your stereotypical charity shop doubter but my first trip to Barnardo’s immediately changed my mind.
