April here! I’m back with another monthly blog for The-Thrift! This time, it’s all about getting creative and personalising your pre-loved finds. So, let’s get right to it!
Denim finds are my favourite to get creative with. It’s so easy to jazz up old denim with a quick DIY fix, and from the comfort of your own home.
I got these Mom jeans in my local Barnardo’s in Brixton a couple of months ago – a bargain at just £7.99! They fit perfectly but I wanted to make them unique. I knew they would look great distressed and decided to give it a go myself. Here’s how I did it. Read More »
Hello Thrift followers! In my last blog, I explained how my husband and I managed to create our own vintage inspired wedding for a fraction of the cost of your typical wedding. Part of this involved scouring charity shops for pre-loved wedding attire and decorations.
Even if you’re not planning on tying the knot yourself, you may have received a pretty little invitation through your door inviting you to share someone’s special day.
Cue the mad dash to find an outfit. My first stop? The local charity shops!
There’s a method to choosing a wedding outfit. Firstly, is there a theme? Pinterest is your best friend here. It helps you find colours and textures that fit the theme and leaves you loaded with inspiration when you hit the shops. Luckily, when I had the pleasure of attending my sister in law’s wedding, there weren’t many ‘rules’ and so I was free to pick an outfit which felt like ‘me’!

Wednesday’s, the one day of the week that I can guarantee will be a success. Why? It’s the day I volunteer at Barnardo’s. My friend introduced me to the idea of volunteering about seven months ago and I can honestly say I’m having the best experience!
My manager Leanne and I hit it off immediately. So much so when I heard she was moving stores, I followed her. I was given the exciting role of creating fun window displays to draw the public in. I was given free rein to be creative and this has given me a huge amount of my confidence back. Plus, having a fashion degree under my belt means I can finally put my skills to good use, thank god!

Hey, my name is Blaise Tykal Simmons-Johnson, but my nickname to everyone at home is drama queen! I’m 20 years old and I’ve been modelling professionally for just under three years now and I’m also an actress.
I enjoy taking part in sport and dancing is one of my favourite things to do. I also love to cook and read. My star sign is Gemini which means I can be a little crazy but the good kind of course!
My aim for 2017 is to continue everything I was doing in 2016 but bigger and better, achieve my goals and travel the world.
Spring has finally sprung and I couldn’t be happier. As much as I adore my ever-growing collection of faux fur and teddy coats, I am also a big fan of sunshine, ice creams and mini dresses, all of which are not the most Winter- friendly! Now, I am not one to follow trends – I enjoy wearing what I want to wear and don’t want to repurchase a whole new wardrobe every season because that’s boring (and expensive!). Luckily, a lot of the key trends for Spring/Summer are purse friendly and ‘oh- so- me’, which makes being on trend more natural and fun. Without further ado, I’m going to talk you through my favourite key trends for Spring/Summer 2017!
Trend One- Gingham
Who doesn’t love looking like a picnic blanket?! In case you’ve been living underground, you’ve no doubt seen that gingham is everywhere this season. It’s been seen on catwalk shows including Molly Goddard and Shrimps and everywhere on the high street from Primark to Topshop; it is probably the key print for Spring.Read More »
This year is all about sharing your love story. Why not shout about that favourite dress you found while traveling or a gem you picked up in your local charity shop? If you love it, share it!
Presenter, stylist, Dj, and avid blogger Fabienne has done just this. Check out her love story about her incredible pink woollen YSL suit. Photograph it, film it, write about it! Get involved this Fashion Revolution week and share your love story.
She’s a Brown University graduate with a degree in English literature, a UN ambassador, a long-term advocate of sustainable fashion, starring in one of this year’s most highly anticipated movie releases and all round female boss! Emma Watson is a force to be reckoned with.
With International Women’s day having just passed we thought it only right to pay homage to one of our favourite fierce fashion icons. Keep scrolling to check out our favourite red carpet looks from the Beauty and the Beast premiers so far.

Keep scrolling to see why we love it! Stay chic and stylish in these festive finds and you will be sure to keep everyone green with envy!
In true Irish style it’s always best to be prepared to brave the elements. Why not do this in style with a fun raincoat? It’s effortlessly cool, easy to carry and we like to think of it as an investment for festival season!

It’ April here and I’m, back with another monthly guest blog! In this entry I’ll be sharing my ideas on how to end the stigma around charity shop shopping and sharing some more smashing Barnardo’s finds.
When you hear the words charity shop, what immediately pops into your mind? For me it’s a treasure trove of amazing fashion finds! I’ve had people compliment me on my outfits, followed by the classic question “where is that from?” – I have always proudly answered: “Barnardo’s”. Cue the shocked expression! I was once your stereotypical charity shop doubter but my first trip to Barnardo’s immediately changed my mind.

Charity Fashion Love has been and gone, and we’re sad to wave goodbye to another brilliant event celebrating the versatility, beauty and fun of pre-loved shopping.
Once again we were blown away by the speed and flair with which Stylist and CFL Founder, Emma recreated London Fashion Week looks, solely using items found in one Barnardo’s store. The buzz of event day and general excitement of everyone taking part, was infectious, and we hope you’ve all been inspired to make pre-loved your first love when it comes to to shopping for clothes!
The action isn’t over though, as we have been holding some free drop-in workshops with Barnardo’s, in three of their London stores. The workshops focus on different trends we’ve seen during London Fashion Week and are bound to help keep you up to date!
