Fashion Revolution Week – Jacks Love Story

Fashion Revolution week is here!

This year, we are so excited to share a series of fashion love stories with you. It’s time to fall back in love with clothes by re-wearing what’s in your wardrobe, swapping with friends or shopping at your local Barnardo’s store. Loved clothes last so lets start celebrating them!

First up in this weeks series is Jack, sustainable fashion, art, colour and pattern lover. Check out his love story featuring a gorgeous vintage shirt, styled up 5 ways for every occasion. Photograph it, film it, write about it! Get involved this Fashion Revolution week and share your love story.

Volunteering At Barnardo’s Vintage

A huge hello to everyone reading! My name is Alice, I’m 28, I love the Simpsons and adore all things vintage! In January 2015 I was having a difficult time with my mental health and wasn’t working. Enter: Barnardo’s Vintage! A Barnardo’s charity shop like no other.

At that time, I was living with my parents in their new house, down the road from Cheadle Village. A stroll out one day lead to my first visit to Barnardo’s Vintage; I decided almost instantly that volunteering there was something I would absolutely love to do. Why was that?  It seemed to be a place that had the ultimate escapism affect (I wasn’t wrong). The kitsch jewellery, children’s toys, balls of yarn – there was so much variety to take in. A fascinating place, laid out to perfection.Read More »

Why I Love Vintage Shopping

The popularity of vintage clothing is on the rise and I couldn’t be happier. It is so accessible now as it’s being sold on the high street and all over the internet. For some people, it can seem strange wearing clothing which is old or previously worn –  I didn’t like pre-loved clothes when I was younger but how times change! I’m now 21 and about 90% of my wardrobe is vintage.

Mustard Chic

I picked up this striped shirt in the Lytham St Anne’s Barnardo’s, during a girly weekend in Blackpool back in September. The mustard yellow caught my eye immediately as it’s one of my favourite colours at this time of year – ideal for transitioning into our autumn/winter wardrobe. A stripe is a timeless print, which in my opinion, always adds a spot of chicness. Plus, I love a dipped hem/front-tuck combo; loose and comfy but still has shape.

My Up-cycling Challenge

I was asked by Barnardo’s to join in with Recycle Week by up-cycling an item of clothing surprisingly sent to me, I automatically thought, WHAT A FUN CHALLENGE!

As an avid repairs and up-cycling seamstress with my brand, Soul and Flare, I was excited to receive my parcel. I opened up the box and to my delight there was an indigo wash, women’s denim shirt by Uniqlo. HURRAH!

From Casual To Formal

Hannah_Photo1 V1

You can almost always find a great smart shirt in Barnardo’s, one like this high-neck number. I love a high-neck shirt but whenever I try one on I just don’t seem to be able to pull it off. Although I can’t pull off the high-neck style I still loved the fabric of this shirt and wanted to make it into something I would feel comfortable to wear for all occasions.

With only some scissors, a little thread and a needle you can chill (like I did) in front of the TV (a favourite pastime of mine) and turn a smart shirt into something a little more casual and comfortable for everyday wear.Read More »
