Busting Open Your Comfort Zone

Hi lovely charity shop fans! I’m Carrie, a Nottingham based vintage fiend and charity shop addict who boasts an entirely thrifted wardrobe (and a prodigious collection of thrifted books too). I blog at duckduckgoosevintagestyling.blogpsot.com.

One of the things I love most about charity shopping is the fact that it really encourages an open mind approach to fashion. Whilst some might be daunted by such a range of styles, eras, colours, shapes and fabrics, I find it hugely exciting. High street shops seem so finite by comparison! Charity shopping, on the other hand, provides the ideal blank canvas to reconfigure your ideas of what constitutes ‘your personal style’, be that by trying out a colour you’d normally shy away from, a style that seems a bit eccentric but might just be worth a try, or teaming two ostensibly mismatched pieces together. Hey, why not just throw the whole rulebook out of the window – the world (well more specifically the charity shops, but let’s not quibble) is your oyster. To prove it, here’s a handy guide to shopping in sections which you might otherwise overlook.

How to declutter your wardrobe AND do something good.

With Christmas a distant memory and spring soon approaching (well, kind of), now’s the time to get more organised and freshen up for the new year. Everyone talks about ‘no buy January’, and how they’re attempting not to buy anything new for a month, but how about trying to include this mindset into your everyday life and not just for January? You could declutter your wardrobe and whip together some outfits you may have forgotten you have, AND it will make you feel better and less cluttered.

Blaise Q&A

Hey, my name is Blaise Tykal Simmons-Johnson, but my nickname to everyone at home is drama queen! I’m 20 years old and I’ve been modelling professionally for just under three years now and I’m also an actress.

I enjoy taking part in sport and dancing is one of my favourite things to do. I also love to cook and read. My star sign is Gemini which means I can be a little crazy but the good kind of course!

My aim for 2017 is to continue everything I was doing in 2016 but bigger and better, achieve my goals and travel the world.

Most of us are looking to switch our autumn/winter wardrobe into a spring/summer one and the opportunity for a great clear-out is definitely in the air.

loveyc_logoBut how do you know which clothes to keep and which ones to discard? Well, the definition of de-clutter in the Oxford dictionary is ‘remove unnecessary items from an untidy or overcrowded place.

De-cluttering is a great place to kick-start the spring clean and Love Your Clothes has joined forces with Barnardo’s to show you a quick and easy way to a lighter and more organised wardrobe. By all working together, we hope to reduce the 350,000 tonnes of clothes that end up in UK landfills every year.

April’s Charity Shopping Tips.

It’ April here and I’m, back with another monthly guest blog! In this entry I’ll be sharing my ideas on how to end the stigma around charity shop shopping and sharing some more smashing Barnardo’s finds.

When you hear the words charity shop, what immediately pops into your mind? For me it’s a treasure trove of amazing fashion finds! I’ve had people compliment me on my outfits, followed by the classic question “where is that from?” – I have always proudly answered: “Barnardo’s”. Cue the shocked expression! I was once your stereotypical charity shop doubter but my first trip to Barnardo’s immediately changed my mind.

Breakfast at The BBC with Gemma

I was recently very lucky to receive a phone call from Pav the producer of BBC Radio Manchester. She invited me to the studio to talk about vintage and collectables and advise callers on what to hang onto for value in the future.

I arrived at the studio bright and early and was met at reception by the lovely Libby, who briefed me on the schedule for the morning. I can talk about vintage forever which was perfect as they asked me to stay for the whole breakfast show rather than my expected 45 minutes. It was really exciting to see the behind the scenes operations and all the people who run the production of the radio show.
