Over the last couple of years, charity shopping has really started to spike. Vintage and pre-loved pieces are trending all over Instagram and retro is yet again back in fashion. As a Londoner, I am only a stone’s throw away from the vintage shops that dominate Brick Lane. While most people flock to these vintage spots for their retro outfits, charity shops can sometimes be overlooked. They offer a great avenue to find amazing pieces at a fraction of the price, as well as rehoming lovely pre-loved items.
My wardrobe is dominated by colour, and pieces with a 70’s vibe. With that in mind, I have pieced together two 70’s style looks, with pre-loved item’s from Barnardo’s and Traid, which I picked up on a recent charity shopping spree in Brixton.
Look 1:
Shirt: Barnardo’s – originally Zara
Flares: Depop – originally Topshop
Popping into Barnardo’s in Brixton, I came across this beautiful green shirt from Zara. While not part of an everyday 70’s look, it’s definitely a piece to dress up for a ‘going out’ 70’s inspired outfit. I paired it with these fun petite flares that I bought a few months ago from Depop. These are extra funky because they are not too long, which is usually the case with my tiny legs, result!
I really love this outfit and who knew green and red could look so great together! Even better, the shirt was just £3’s, and the flares £10. Retro, without breaking the bank!
Can we appreciate the cute little necktie though?
P.S. If all else fails, add a strong curl and you’re perfectly set up for a fun 70s look!
Look 2:
Shirt: Traid – originally Topshop
Trousers: Traid – originally Zara
Yet another couple of pieces from Topshop and Zara! As soon as I saw this shirt in Traid Brixton, I knew I had to have it. The pattern on it is to die for, feeling some major 70’s festival vibes! Then 5 minutes later, I found these gorgeous tan trousers. I love the slightly shorter flare on them, perfect for showing off a cool pair of boots!
Pattern of my dreams right here – 70s Stevie Nicks dreams!
So next time you’re thinking of getting a new 70’s inspired look, have a little peek in your local charity shop, you never know what you might find!
